Leoni Begins Construction of Factory in Kraljevo

The German Leoni company began the construction of a wiring factory, its fourth in Serbia, worth EUR60 million, in Kraljevo, on Oct. 11.The plan is to build the first facility, spanning 6,500 square meters, by the end of the year. A testing phase for producing wiring sets for the automotive industry is to follow at the beginning of February next year, by which time over 1,000 workers should be employed.Serial production for the German Mercedes Benz should begin at the end of 2019 or the beginning of 2020, while the completed factory will span 65,000 square meters and be ready by 2023. It will employ around 5,000 workers.Leoni operates factories in Prokuplje, Malosiste and Nis, where it has invested around EUR90 million and employs 6,000 people.The groundbreaking ceremony for Leoni's factory in Serbia and the first factory in Kraljevo in 30 years was attended by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic. He said that the company would become Serbia's biggest employer after hiring an additional several thousand workers.Leoni Srbija GM Clemens Sax, Leoni Group board of directors member Martin Stuettem, German Ambassador Thomas Schieb and Kraljevo Mayor Predrag Terzic attended the ceremony.
